Liverpool Spring Meet

Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th March 2020, Liverpool Aquatics Centre

Despite a somewhat strange and surreal atmosphere pervading the UK, 13 swimmers (Jacob, Rylie, Emily, Tabby, Imogen, Indi, Tom, Abby, Ethan, Stephen, Eloise, Clemmie and Lucy) ventured to Liverpool this weekend, for a new level 1 gala on the TYS calendar, held at the Liverpool Aquatics Centre. We were given an extremely warm welcome by the poolside team who kept us well provided with drinks and sweets to keep the blood sugar levels up!

We were off to a good start on Saturday morning with a long course pb and a silver medal for Jacob in the first event of the day, the 400IM. More fast swims and pbs followed quickly for Rylie and Tabby in the 200IM, Jacob in the 50m fly, Imogen in the 50m back and a silver for Rylie in the 50m back. Tom finished a morning of quality swims for TYS with gold medals in the 100m fly and 50m fly breaking the Meet Record in both races.

A quick refuel over lunch and we were off to good start in the afternoon session with a pb for Emily in the 400m free. Eloise in the 200m breast, Ethan in the 50m free and Emily in the 50m breast continued the good form with more pbs. Tom won gold in the 50m free in another Meet Record – a great end to the day and earning that giant garlic bread and pasta for tea!

After testing out the local Premier Inns and their breakfasts we were back raring to go again on Sunday. First off was a great race for Tabby winning bronze in the 400IM with a new pb. This was followed by pbs for Imogen in the 100m fly, Ethan in 100m free, Tabby in 50m fly, Jacob in 50m back, also winning bronze and a silver for Tom in the 100m free.

We had more pbs in the afternoon with Imogen and Lucy in the 200m free and Jacob in the 200m breast with a silver medal. Jacob rounded off a great weekend of swims with yet another pb and silver medal in the 50m breast and Clemmie took the gold in the 50m free.

It was a really well run gala and was a great meet to start the Summer Nationals qualifying window. Unfortunately little did we know this was to be the last meet we would be attending for the foreseeable future as swimming as we know it was about to come to a stop due to the escalation of the coronavirus. Hopefully we will be back in the pool soon.
